Play for a Purpose scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2020  at The St. James in Springfield, VA, has been postponed.

At the appropriate time, Players Against Hate, Play for a Purpose, and Anti-Flag will reschedule the game for a later date at The St. James in Springfield, VA.

We want to host the Play for a Purpose in an environment where our fans, players, and everyone working or attending our event can feel safe. The progression of COVID-19 in many parts of the world, including the U.S., resulted in those involved with the planning of Play for a Purpose making this decision in the interest of public health and the wellbeing of all involved in the event.

Fans who purchased tickets for Play for a Purpose will be able to use them for the rescheduled date. To request a refund, please email PlayHockeyForAPurpose@gmail.com.  The Online Silent Auction will be cancelled and re-started once a new date is announced.

We would like to thank everyone for supporting this event, and we appreciate your understanding and patience. We are determined to present Play for a Purpose to all our supporters as soon as possible.

On March 21 at 2:00 PM, a charity hockey event will be taking place at The St. James in Springfield, Virginia, to raise money for Players Against Hate.  The game will feature a hockey game featuring local celebrities and local hockey coaches, to include the following:

Players Against Hate is determined to increase awareness and stop racism and name-calling by youth athletes, their teams and coaches, their families, and spectators.

The goals of Players Against Hate are to:

1) Develop educational materials against hate to be used to teach players, coaches, officials, sports organizations, and spectators that hate has no place on the bench, in the game, or in the stands.

2) Sponsor scholarships with monies raised by Players Against Hate to support athletes of color who want to play sports that have traditionally been less diverse.

3) Grow the movement beyond hockey to other youth sports where hate impacts the athletes.
